Shop Service Manager

What Will You Do?

You will plan, coordinate, and manages day-to-day maintenance shop operations, including cost-effective utilization of resources, inventory management, scheduling, workflow, daily priorities, and ongoing company initiatives. Manage and provide coverage and direction to the service team on multiple schedules and shifts. Recommend changes in process and procedures and implement improvements in fleet maintenance: answers phone calls and questions for on-the-road breakdowns support desk. Manage truck and trailer technicians in the maintenance shop and field—monitor and review work orders for accuracy, performance, and efficiency within shop maintenance systems.

Responsibilities

Monitor and review all work orders to ensure parts and labor are reasonable.

Manage activity specific to their assigned fleet for on-the-road breakdown situations to minimize downtime and cost-effectively resolve issues.

Monitor and train technicians on work order completion to appropriately explain what was done on the repair order to assist in warranty filing.

Maintain current with truck shop standards and best practices following Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS) and company standards.

Make employment decisions and recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, pay adjustments, etc.

Coordinate and manage employees’ work by directing team members to meet the area’s goals. Audit regularly to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to.

Manage employee performance and assist employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching, mentoring, and administering performance reviews. Recommend, plan and implement employee training and skill development activities.

Audit, maintain and ensure employee time-keeping and absentee records are accurate.

Communicate company and departmental issues and goals and facilitate employee growth and development through weekly team meetings, individual employee meetings, coaching, training, and company-offered learning opportunities.

Manage resources to optimize equipment, facilities, employees, methods, and materials.

Demonstrate the Company’s Core and Growth Values in the performance of all job functions.


What Do You Need?

Associate degree in Vehicle Maintenance or related field, or equivalent work experience, Required

Seven years’ heavy vehicle shop maintenance experience, Required

Experience with Computer inventory systems

Class A CDL or ability to obtain within one year, required

State and federal certification for air conditioning repair required
