Assistant Shop Operations Manager
The Assistant Shop Operations Manager plans, coordinates, and assists the management of the day-to-day operations of the maintenance shop. This includes but is not limited to costs, effective utilization of resources, scheduling, workflow, daily priorities, and ongoing company initiatives. This position will recommend changes in processes and procedures in fleet maintenance. The Shop Operations Manager answers phone calls and questions from ambassadors, vendors, and other departments within the company. This position assists in managing truck and trailer technicians in the maintenance shop and in the field. This position also assists in monitoring and reviewing work orders for accuracy, performance, and efficiency within shop maintenance systems.
Responsibilities
Prepares maintenance budget in conjunction with senior leadership. Work with the maintenance team to maintain monthly budget goals.
Enter, review, approve and complete invoices through the purchase order system.
Coordinate repairs with third-party vendors.
Manage workflow of shop software, including inventory, work order approval, etc.
Maintain shop cleanliness and safety procedures
Answer phone calls from vendors and other departments within the company as the need arises. Follow up on procedures set by company policy
Process and redistribute work orders when corrections are needed. Coordinate and manage the work of employees by directing members of the team to meet the area’s goals.
Audit regularly to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to.
Monitor employee performance and assist employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching and mentoring.
Recommend, plan and/or implement employee training and skill development activities.
Assist with communicating company and departmental issues and goals and facilitate employee growth and development through weekly team meetings, regular individual employee meetings, coaching, training, and company-offered learning opportunities.
What will you need?
Associate degree in Vehicle Maintenance or related field, or equivalent work experience.
4 years’ experience in heavy vehicle shop maintenance.
Class A CDL or the ability to obtain within 1 year.
